Remove the trap, not human differences¶
An equal start promises neither identical incomes, homes nor biographies. It removes the situation in which lack of housing, treatment or education takes away real choice before a person makes the first independent decision.
The foundation of freedom¶
At 18, everyone receives an individual basic package: protected housing, healthcare, education and starter resources for study or work. Before then, the child is supported within a family package that grows with each child. After the start, people may build better housing, earn, create businesses and choose risk.
What parents may pass to children¶
Parents pass on time, care, upbringing, knowledge and personal example, but not money, real estate, shares or a business. They may finance only the common education system, without buying their child a place or privilege. A sole owner’s assets return to society at death; joint marital assets do so after the surviving spouse dies.
A reality test¶
The model must answer questions of cost, scarcity, motivation, abuse and transition. If a pilot reduces housing supply or creates a new dependence on an official, it must change. An equal start is a testable design, not a promise of good intentions.
